PIED A TERRE 53

Type: mini-apartment
Designer/architect: Nikolai Stulov
Photographer: Vlad Feoktistov
Location: Caucasus region
This space is a temporary second residence for short stays or rentals. It is a place near the sea where you can escape from routine, spend time with no purpose, and recharge. Basically, it is a one-room hotel without a lobby or reception like in a conventional hotel. Management and administration of the apartment are fulfilled via wi-fi from a distance of 450 kilometers from each other so there is no need for the guests and the host to meet in person.
Two contrasting materials of the finish divide the space into two halves vertically. This gives a very straightforward contrast between the floor and all the rest. The walls and the ceiling of the space are finished with the same color glossy material. This levels out the difference between the surfaces and creates a feeling of space infinity. Whereas the floor is made of raw travertine with each stone piece being 4 centimeters thick and weighing 12 kilograms. So, the floor is static, contrasts with the surroundings and clearly outlines the horizontal. The color scheme for the project is inspired by the desert landscapes of the coastal zone, with sparse vegetation scorched by the sun.
The studio is small but spacious, functionally divided into three zones: entrance and kitchen, living room and bathroom area with a shower. All technical equipment of the bathroom and kitchen is combined into one block. The partition walls do not reach the ceiling of the apartment, their height is + 2,300 meters from the floor level. This allows natural light to penetrate the apartment freely.
